The
Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and American Association for Cancer
Research (AACR) will begin accepting applications for their joint
2009 Research Grants Program on Friday,
September 19, 2008. Applications must be directly
relevant and applicable to pancreatic cancer and may be in any discipline
of basic, translational, or clinical research. Applications must
be submitted online through proposalCENTRAL.
The deadline for submissions is 12:00 Noon (Eastern Time), Monday,
November 10, 2008. Funding decisions will be available
by February 15, 2009. The grant terms begin July 1, 2009. Qualified
candidates are invited to apply for the following types of grants:
PILOT
GRANT
Seed
money for the development of new ideas and innovative models. Emphasis
is given to projects that are non-duplicative.
Terms :
Two-year grants totaling $100,000 - $200,000.
Number of Grants : Up to six grants will be
provided in 2009.
Eligibility: Independent investigators, not
including postdoctoral and
clinical research fellows (see below information
for the Fellowship).

CAREER
DEVELOPMENT AWARD
Funds
to attract and support the nation's most promising early-career
scientists and foster their research in the field of pancreatic
cancer.
Terms: Two-year grants totaling $100,000.
Number of Awards: Five grants will be provided
in 2009.
Eligibility: Junior faculty who have completed
postdoctoral studies or
clinical fellowships on or after July 2, 2006.

FELLOWSHIP
AWARD
Funds
to attract the nation's most promising early-career investigators
to the field of pancreatic cancer research.
Terms: One-year grant totaling $45,000.
Number of Awards: One grant will be provided
in 2009.
Eligibility: Postdoctoral or clinical research
fellows who are sponsored by
a mentor and started their fellowship between
July 2, 2006 and
July 1, 2009.

General
Eligibility Criteria:
- Only applicants
working at academic or medical institutions within the U.S. may
apply.
- Applicants must
have a medical or doctoral degree in a related field and may not
currently be a candidate for a further doctoral or professional
degree. If an equivalent degree has been obtained from a foreign
institution, information on the nature of the degree must be provided
at the time of application.
- Applicants must
not be employees or subcontractors of the government or private
industry.
- Applicants need
not be members of the AACR to apply but non-members must submit
a satisfactory application for Associate or Active Membership
depending upon their level of seniority.
- Past recipients
of Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Grants are eligible to apply
so long as these previous grant terms are completed by June 30,
2008.
