Sunday, June 15

Arrive in Washington, D.C
Please plan to arrive in Washington, D.C. by Sunday, June 15, since mandatory training starts on Monday morning. Please note that, unless indicated, all activities for Advocacy Day 2014 will be held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott located in Arlington, Virginia (a suburb of Washington, D.C.) at 1700 Jefferson Davis Highway Arlington, V.A. 22202.
3:30 PM – 7:00 PM: Advocacy Day Check-In
Stop by the Arlington 1 & 2 rooms at the Crystal Gateway Marriott to check in and pick up your participant information packets and name badges.

4:00PM – 6:00PM: Understanding Pancreatic Cancer Educational Lecture
Learn more about treatment for pancreatic cancer and communicating with your healthcare team from leading pancreatic cancer oncologists at this cost-free lecture. Find out more.

Monday, June 16

Note:Training attendance is mandatory for all Advocacy Day participants, regardless of previous Advocacy Day experience. The mandatory training will take place at the Crystal Gateway Marriott located in Arlington, Virginia (a suburb of Washington, D.C.) at 1700 Jefferson Davis Highway Arlington, V.A. 22202.

The schedule below includes estimated times for planning purposes.  Please consult your confirmation email that will be sent to you a few weeks before the event for final times. 

7:30 AM – 10:00 AM: Breakfast and Check-In
A full breakfast buffet will be available at the Arlington Foyer. Pancreatic Cancer Action Network staff will also be available during this time for you to check in and pick up your participant packets. Please complete check-in prior to attending your first training session this morning.

7:30 AM – 8:30 AM: Newcomer Orientation Session
This session is geared for those who have never attended an Advocacy Day before and will help participants get familiarized with what to expect from the training and from the Hill Day.

9:00 AM – 4:30 PM: Advocacy Training & Breakout Sessions for All Participants
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will conduct training on everything you need to know to ensure your meetings with your members of Congress are successful. Additionally, each participant will have the chance to choose three breakout session preferences during the registration process and will be assigned to two. For more information on breakout sessions, click here. Please note that this training is mandatory for all participants planning to attend Hill meetings the following day.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch
Lunch will be served to all attendees between training sessions.

4:30 PM – 5:30 PM: Schedule Distribution
Schedules for your Tuesday meetings on Capitol Hill will be distributed at this time. You will then have the opportunity to meet with other volunteers from your state to network and discuss your meeting strategy.

Tuesday, June 17

7:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Breakfast and Send-Off
Breakfast will be served, and closing remarks will be made. If there have been any changes to your schedules, you will hear about it at this time.

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM: Meetings on Capitol Hill
This is the big day! The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will set up appointments for you to meet with your members of Congress on Capitol Hill. Transportation fare, via Metro, will be provided for each registered participant from the hotel to Capitol Hill. 

12:00 PM: Group Photograph
At noon, we will take a group photograph on the steps of the Capitol Building for those who do not have meetings scheduled at this time. PLEASE NOTE: Your meetings should come first! Do not skip a meeting in favor of taking this picture.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT BOOK A RETURN FLIGHT THAT LEAVES ON TUESDAY BEFORE 6:30 PM out of Reagan National Airport, or 7:30 PM out of Dulles International or Baltimore Airports.

Dress code: Please plan to wear business casual attire for the training on June 16th and business or business casual attire (with comfortable shoes!) for the meetings with members of Congress on June 17th. Weather during June in DC is variable and may range from 65°F to 90°F, so please make sure to pack an umbrella, clothing for layering, and comfortable shoes.
