“I feel strongly that it's my mission to be an advocate, a voice, because so many pancreatic cancer patients don't get the opportunity to do so. So many wonderful people have come into my life, whom I never would have met otherwise. It fills my heart with joy when new volunteers say ‘I want to become part of this group, and make a difference, like you are!’ Our affiliate has made an impact building awareness, fund raising, and equally important, creating a real community for survivors, families and friends.”

PurpleStride Pittsburgh 2015

PurpleStride Pittsburgh presented by HM Insurance Group was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who participated, donated or volunteered. We couldn't have done it without you!

PurpleStride Pittsburgh 2015 took place at a NEW VENUE, in beautiful Schenley Park. Dr. Shyam Thakkar from Allegheny Health Network gave an educational and moving speech during opening ceremonies, and 34 survivors gathered at the stage, helping us to Wage Hope.  With almost 1,600 participants, we celebrated the day by raising awareness and over $211,500! Great job, and thank you to all involved!

PurpleLight Pittsburgh 2015

Pittsburgh came together to honor, inspire and remember all those affected by pancreatic cancer at PurpleLight on March 1, 2015. Survivors, family and friends illuminated purple glow sticks as they heard their loved ones’ names read aloud, helping to light the night purple. Pittsburgh was joined by thousands of participants at more than 20 PurpleLight events across the country, bringing solidarity, comfort and hope to the pancreatic cancer community.

Photos will be posted at www.purplelight.org when they are available.

Pittsburgh Leaders Win National Awards!

The Pittsburgh Affiliate brought home awards from the Annual Awards Dinner at Community Outreach Leadership Training for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in San Diego, CA on August 29, 2015.  Andrea Bauer-Kuczma was named Affiliate Chair of the Year and Tami Haslett was named Media Relations Chair of the Year.  Tami and Andrea are two of the members of the core leadership team in Pittsburgh.

There are many ways you can support the local fight and join other friendly volunteers committed to fighting pancreatic cancer. Whether you have ten minutes or are looking for a more extensive commitment, we have a role for you. Our volunteers focus on several key areas: raising general awareness, media, education and outreach to healthcare professionals, advocacy and fundraising and awareness events.

The Pittsburgh Affiliate is looking to fill the following position:

PurpleLight Chair - Leads the effort to plan and coordinate the local affiliate’s PurpleLight event to help create awareness and honor those facing pancreatic cancer.

Advocacy Chair – Mobilizes local advocates to educate elected officials about our legislative priorities with a focus on increasing federal funding for pancreatic cancer research.

Sponsorship Ambassador - Prospects, cultivates and stewards sponsorship and corporate team opportunities to benefit affiliate fundraising events.

Team Ambassador – Engages and cultivates relationships with PurpleStride team captains to motivate and strengthen their fundraising and recruitment efforts.

Social Media Administrator - Leverages local social media platforms (primarily Facebook and Twitter) to create awareness for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and local affiliate events and activities.
