Caregiver and wife Wendy Rogers with her husband and pancreatic cancer survivor Steve.

Support for the pancreatic cancer patient is critical to improve quality of life and overall well-being. Having a support system of caregivers, family, friends, healthcare professionals and a patient advocate is important to address and manage the needs of the patient.

There is nothing quite like talking to someone who has been through a similar situation.  Share information, ask questions and gain support and inspiration by talking to others with similar experiences through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Survivor & Caregiver Network.

The Survivor & Caregiver Network is made up of volunteers throughout the country who are available to communicate one-on-one with those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, their loved ones or anyone looking to connect with someone who has experienced pancreatic cancer.  The volunteers are pancreatic cancer survivors and caregivers who have provided their contact information to be given out through PanCAN Patient Services.  Contact can be made by phone or email and serves as an invaluable source of encouragement, support and inspiration.

The Survivor & Caregiver Network works like this: an individual diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, or their loved one, calls PanCAN Patient Services and requests to speak with a survivor or caregiver for support. The PanCAN Patient Services Case Manager then provides information about several volunteer survivors or caregivers in the Network who are in a similar situation.  The information given about a volunteer may include: name, contact information, state of residence, diagnosis and treatment history.  The individual then makes contact with the volunteer at his or her convenience for shared experiences and support.

This one-on-one contact can serve as an incredible source of hope and inspiration.
