Our Priority: Increasing Federal Funding for Pancreatic Cancer Research

Congress sets the spending priorities and funds the federal government each year. That’s why our advocacy efforts are focused on reaching and influencing members of the 119th Congress. PanCAN advocates (that’s you!) accelerate progress by urging members of Congress – on both sides of the aisle – to prioritize pancreatic cancer and lifesaving cancer research funding to save lives and continue making progress in the fight against the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States.

Invest $25 million in the Pancreatic Cancer Research Program

As part of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) at the Department of Defense (DoD), this program is the only source of dedicated federal funding for pancreatic cancer and focuses on funding high-risk, high-reward research most likely to lead to breakthroughs patients need.

Reject cuts and support $51.3 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) base budget, including $7.934 billion for the National Cancer Institute (NCI)

Growing funding at the NIH and NCI grows biomedical research funding available for all cancers. The NCI is the largest annual source of pancreatic cancer research funding and focuses on advancing foundational knowledge of the disease to aid in accelerating early detection strategies and more effective treatment options.
