Just Salad founder and CEO, Nick Kenner, speaks at PanCAN PurpleStride NYC in 2024.
A decade-plus commitment to the pancreatic cancer community has fueled one family’s enduring, and growing, partnership with PanCAN.
In 2010, the Kenner family was shocked by the loss of husband and father Peter Kenner, shortly after a diagnosis of neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer. With no obvious risk factors or symptoms of the disease, the quickness of the loss was overwhelming.
“We had no family history, my father didn’t drink or smoke, he was in good shape,” said Nick. “It completely blindsided us.”
Nick’s mother, Barbara Kenner, PhD, founded the Kenner Family Research Fund in 2013, with the vision of advancing early detection of pancreatic cancer to improve survival. Dr. Kenner is a current board member of PanCAN and a founding member of the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition..
Just Salad, launched in 2006 and committed to making everyday health and sustainability possible, has grown to more than 125 locations in seven states. Nick’s vision and dedication extends to his increasing support of PanCAN and PurpleStride. Just Salad has also supported PanCAN with a Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month cause program, generously donating a portion of sales from a PanCAN signature salad during our November campaign in 2019.
PurpleStride 2026 marks the fourth year that Just Salad has been the Premier Sponsor of PanCAN PurpleStride NYC and first as City Sponsor. City Sponsorship offers year-round engagement and collaboration with our NYC Affiliate and includes PanCAN’s national events like PanCAN PurpleStride and Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and local Affiliate events like PurpleLight, community events and more.
Over the years, Nick has seen the community unite and grow. And he’s looking forward to being out there with everyone on April 25.
“The crowds keep getting bigger, more funds are being raised, and the community feels more energetic every year,” Nick said. “It’s an inspiration.”
And it’s that spirit of community that keeps Nick’s, and Just Salad’s, commitment going strong.
“I support PanCAN to honor my father and to help accelerate the research and early detection that could save others from this devastating disease.”
